75% of parents support ban on unhealthy food ads

RED C recently conducted a national survey of parents in relation to advertising of unhealthy foods to children. This research was conducted for The Irish Heart Foundation, The National Youth Council of Ireland and Children’s Rights Alliance. The survey found that over half of parent’s with dependent children under age 18 expressed concern regarding TV advertising of unhealthy food to children.  55% of parents would support a TV advertising ban on unhealthy foods up to the 9pm watershed, a further 1 in 5 would support an all out ban. The survey also found that a high percentage of parents believe that TV advertising to children and young people influences their food choices with over 4 in 5 parents agreeing with this.
